Human- Humans are the most common race of the continent of Signum, and make up about 90% of the population. The strongest and most muscular of the races, they are able to partake in battle by using heavier weapons. While unable to use offensive magic, humans have created staves to allow them to utilize magic in order to heal. It is said that those humans who have formed a blood pact in order to use magic are also capable of using dark tomes, a power unknown even to the sharpest of Seers.
Youko- Youko were the original inhabitants of Signum, and despite (or perhaps thanks to) their very small population, have never fought any wars with the continent's settlers. Only about 1000 individuals are currently alive according to census. Each Youko possesses fox-like ears and a single tail that splits into many as they become more experienced. Each tail is a status symbol of sorts, and tails are accumulated through mental and emotional growth through scholarship, war and other important fields. While average citizens only have one or two, higher numbers (including those capped at nine) are highly revered and often elected into high political positions. Their life expectancy is about 120 years, and they age at a slightly slower pace than most humans- their childhood is about the same length, but adolescence lasts until they are about 25, and only afterwards are they considered true adults. Considered the "founders of magic", Youko are able to transform into foxes using talismans and utilize the elements for their advantage. Their fox form also possesses physically offensive capabilities, but those are few and far between. Female youko can only bear a child once in their entire life, the main reason for their low population- twin Youko children are often greeted with an entire celebration, and those who have died young are mourned heavily.
Seer- A Seer is the kin of both Youko and humans, or perhaps other Seer descendants. Name for their ability to see Aura (as well as practice magic) like a Youko despite their fully humanoid form, Seers are treated as blessings by some regions and as outcasts by others. Marked with a distinctive red "flame" on the back of each of their hands, those who do not wish for their race to be ousted wear gloves. Unlike normal humans, Seers are able to utilize Anima Magic by casting from tomes- enchanted spellbooks that were specifically catered to their magical potential. These books are related to the abilities of their Youko kin, allowing them to use the elements to their own advantage. Despite their odd histories, Seers are far more common than Youko due to the women of their race being able to bear multiple children. Seers often have the androgynous, slender build common to Youko, and because of this they are unfit for heavy combat and prefer utilizing magic and ranged weapons to get the job done.
Manakete- A member of the Divine Dragon tribe. Once a great legion of dragons spread across the world, the Manaketes who remain in Signum are primarily travelers from across the sea or their descendants. Considered a scarcity in Signum, Manaketes are still often ostracized by humans and Youko alike due to their foreign roots. Notable for their enormous lifespan (10000 years is merely brushing adulthood) and adorable pointed ears when taking the form of a human, they use clear gems known as Dragonstones to take on their more beastly forms. While they breathe fire as a default, obtaining other forms of Dragonstones allows them to utilize different elements in their fighting styles. Most of the Manaketes in Signum are still considered "children", and have a fittingly young appearance despite their old age. As generations come and go, people seem to be treating these people with more respect due to the integration of faith in Naga into the culture. Their birth rates are extremely low, as Manaketes have astronomically low fertility rates. Perhaps fitting for such a durable people.
